Focus, Focus, Focus

Depth of field is your friend! Use it! Love it! Embrace it! You can have so many distinct shots of the same subject matter by just changing up the focus!

Vintage!

I don't know why people love it so much but vintage is all the rage! My personal favorite vintage photography is old carnival pieces. On a recent outing with my family I ran into an old Merry-Go-Round that was restores. I was awestruck by how pretty it was and how the light hit the new paint. Photography is all about passion. Once you find it capture it!

Close Up

I would have to say I think my macro lens is by far my favorite. I love getting in close and personal. Finding those odd angles is golden and you always get an eye catching photo! When you are mapping your photo think about how every one usually sees it and then think about how it could be seen.

Accent Color

Color, color, and more color! I love when I can find a picture that just pops! Old rusted paint is the best for color pops. It adds so much to the picture.

Ordinary Objects

I always have a hard time deciding on what I want to take a picture of. I usually end up taking pictures of everything. I am always surprised how ordinary objects can be turned into beautiful works of art. When it comes to making a good picture out of nothing there are three very important things you have to think about.

1. Texture - The more texture you have the better. Yes there are times when a smooth surface makes a beautiful shot but when you object is plain to begin with, you need those rough surfaces to bring attention to the piece.

2. Light - A photo is not a photo without light. The way you use light determines how good the picture is. If you can change up the directionality of the light you can make a great sight to be seen.

3. Proportion - Though you want to bring the focus to the object you are shooting, you don't always have to put your object front and center. My personal favorite is to drop my subject into one of the bottom corners, especially if I have a lot of texture in my photo.

I took all these things into consideration and I came up with the following photo. I hope you have as much fun trying it out as I did.
